Noreddin received his Phd in University of the Pacific and research training at the Department of Medicine, Stanford University, CA. He had postdoctoral fellowship, University of Manitoba followed by an American College of Clinical Pharmacy fellowship. His research interest includes Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic modeling of anti-infective therapy, clinical simulation and bacterial resistance in biofilm studies. He has outstanding records of scientific and academic accomplishments with multiple research funding, numerous publications in highly prestigious journals and various presentations in both national and international conferences. He served as a scientific reviewer for the NIH as well as other national and international research institutions.

Professor Thomas is presently Director of the Biofilm Research Laboratory for Translational Studies in Medicine, Dentistry, and Industry at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, US and Senior Consultant to Clinical Microbiology , WVUH. He created the International Tri-University Biofilm Research Consortium in 2002 to further global investigations and education,initially focusing on VAP and the MV ICU patient highlighting the oral -systemic link. He completed a six month Sabbatical at Cardiff University, School of Dental Medicine in 2008 and has travelled extensively, lecturing in 16 countries, 4 continents and to greater than 15,000 educators and public healthcare providers. He is co-organizer of the First Asia Pacific Biofilm Congress which is to be held in China, Spring 2011. He has published extensively on diverse microbial topics emphasizing oral biofilms and their importance in probiotic management, and their link to systemic diseases , chronic wounds, global antibiotic resistance and recently the tumor –biofilm connection.

The Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics (APUA) is pleased to present the 2012 APUA Leadership Award to Professor Roman S. Kozlov and APUA-Russia for sustained leadership to contain antibiotic resistance in Russia and the adjacent region. This award also recognizes the Chapter‟s collaborative efforts with the Inter-Regional Association for Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IACMAC) and the Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IAC) of Smolensk State Medical Academy (SSMA). As President of APUA-Russia, Professor Kozlov has led the remarkable efforts of this chapter to promote the prudent use of antibiotics. APUA-Russia has been extensively involved in activities throughout Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries of the Former Soviet Union for the establishment of a network of sentinel laboratories and organization of continuous surveillance programs of both community and hospital-acquired pathogens. APUA-Russia is based at SSMA in Smolensk, where Professor Kozlov serves as IAC Director. Collaboration with the IAC has provided the laboratory facilities to develop the surveillance work. The results of these studies have been used as a basis for development of national guidelines on the management of community-acquired pneumonia, hospital-acquired pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, and skin and soft-tissue infections.

Dr. Ahmed Lasfar is a Researcher working on improving the use of Interferon in cancer and determining the mechanisms of resistance to interferon therapy at the University Hospital Cancer Center New Jersey Medical School/University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is a member of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at NJMS/UMDNJ. He has completed his Post Doctoral training 1999-2002 in the Department of Molecular Genetics Microbiology and Immunology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School UMDNJ under the supervision of Dr. Sidney Pestka Leader for the approval of IFN use in Clinic by the FDA in 1986 and the winner of the National Medal of Technology in 2002. Dr. Ahmed lasfar has received a PhD in Immunology from Paris University of Science France in 1996. He has completed his Master Degree in Rene Descartes University School of Medicine France 1992. Verma is Chief of the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Programs (EGRP) Methods and Technologies Branch (MTB), and oversees its research portfolio and initiatives that focus on methods to address epidemiologic data collection, study design and analysis, and to modify technological approaches developed in the context of other research endeavors for use as biomarkers and methods to understand cancer susceptibility. He is responsible for stimulating EGRP-funded research on epigenetic approaches in cancer epidemiology and has been instrumental in developing epigenetics research for NIH as a whole. Dr. Verma helped to develop a Request for Applications (RFA) on Environmental Influences on Epigenetics with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and represents the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), in NIHs Roadmap Initiative on EpigeneticsExternal Web Site Policy. He helped develop an RFA on Comparative Systems Genetics of Cancer with NCIs Division of Cancer Biology (DCB), and is known within the extramural research community as an EGRP Program Director for Program Announcements (PAs) on Small Grants for Cancer Epidemiology and Pilot Studies in Pancreatic Cancer. He also organized a workshop to explore developing a concept for a research initiative on mitochondrial DNA and cancer epidemiology. Dr. Verma was, and continues to be, a co-Program Director for initiatives in gene-environment interactions in cancer etiology, including the Breast and Prostate Cancer and Hormone-Related Variants Cohort Consortium (BPC3), which is a collaborative project to pool data and biospecimens from a group of large prospective cancer epidemiology cohorts. Dr. Verma joined EGRP as a Program Director in 2004. In 2005, he was appointed Acting Chief of EGRP\\\'s former Analytic Epidemiology Research Branch (AERB). When EGRP reorganized in 2007, he was appointed Acting Chief of MTB and of the Host Susceptibility Factors Branch (HSFB), for which he served as Acting Chief through 2008. Before joining EGRP, he was a Program Director in NCI\\\'s Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP), where he worked in the areas of biomarkers, early detection, risk assessment, and prevention. Powell received his Ph. Menachem Shoham completed his Ph.D in the Weizmann Institute of Science (isreal) and he is currently working in the Case Western Reserve University as an associate professor in the department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and his main research in the laboratory focuses on drug discovery and drug screening to combat infectious diseases. Shoham received many positions and honors and successfully published 57 peer reviewed publications in his research.

Peter Panizzi, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at Auburn University. He received his doctorate from Vanderbilt University in 2004 and completed post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Systems Biology at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 2007-2010. He has co-authored >32 high-impact articles and was awarded a NIH pathway to Independence Grant (K99R00) from NHLBI before coming to Auburn. His research focus is to better understand how certain bacteria are able to cause human disease and in turn use this knowledge against the microbe to detect specific sites of infections and identify casual pathogen.

Chin attended the United World College of South East Asia Singapore and Lawrence Academy in Groton Massachusetts high school Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley MA, BA Biological Sciences, The Johns Hopkins University ScM Physiology and PhD Toxicological Sciences. She spent her postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Toxicology at US Department of Energy at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland WA. Currently she is at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard School of Medicine in Boston MA in the Department of Surgery B. Y. Chin is also a member of the Teaching Faculty of the 1st year medical curriculum Anatomy Histology and Physiology at Harvard Medical School. She has published over 30 peer review articles and serves on the Editorial Board of World Journal of Pharmacology and as a guest editor in Current Chemical Biology.

His research interests lie in environmental pollutants, airborne particulate matter, ozone and carbon monoxide. However, since arriving at Beth Israel, he is active in propelling and challenging the paradoxical use of low dose carbon monoxide (CO). CO, once viewed and stigmatized as a toxic molecule, has now emerged in the last 10 years with potential therapeutic applications; its pleiotropic effects encompass roles ranging from that of an immunosuppressive agent to that of a host defense molecule. His current research is focused on elucidating the mechanism whereby exogenous administration of CO protects against a murine model of sepsis; most notably that induced by Enterococci faecalis.
