Andrew V. Schally was born on November 30, 1926 in Wilno, Poland (now Lithuania). Schally fled Poland with his family in 1939. He attended the University of London and worked for three years at the National Institute for Medical Research in London before travelling to Montreal to enter McGill University. He graduated in 1955 and two years later took a Ph.D. in biochemistry. From 1957 to 1962 he was associated with Baylor University in Houston, Texas, and in the latter year he became chief of endocrine and polypeptide laboratories at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in New Orleans. At the same time he joined the medical faculty of the Tulane University School of Medicine, becoming professor in 1967. He became senior medical investigator with the Veterans Administration in 1973. Schally became a U.S. citizen in 1962. In 1977, Andrew V. Schally, Ph.D., Sc.D., MDHC, endocrinologist, clinical professor of medicine and chief of experimental medicine, was one of the recipients of the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology for his pioneering work in the field of peptide hormone research. Among Schally\\\'s chief accomplishments were the synthesis of TRH (thyrotropin-releasing hormone), the isolation and synthesis of LH-RH (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone), and studies of the action of somatostatin.

Mitchell Clionsky, Ph.D. ABPP(CN) is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist with more than 30 years experience in hospital and outpatient settings. He directs a multi-specialist outpatient practice in Springfield, MA that specializes in the evaluation and management of dementia, traumatic brain injury, attention deficit problems, and other neurologically-related illnesses. Integration of clinical care and research is a primary focus of this practice. He and his wife/partner, Emily Clionsky, M.D, are the developers of the Memory Orientation Screening Test®, a 5-minute neuropsychologically-based test for primary care physicians and specialists to use in identifying dementia and tracking its level over time. In addition, Dr. Clionsky developed tests for patient- and informant-awareness of cognitive impairment, a measure of patients ability to learn and recall practical list information, and a test of logical reasoning.

Dr. Clionsky has develop iPad versions of the MOST®, including the MOST-96120, which qualifies for reimbursement to doctors by CMS. His recent work has established the equivalence of the paper- and computer-based versions of the MOST. He is also developing newer for international use and a version that also measures processing speed.

Dr. Joseph M. Rifkind received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Columbia University in 1966. He obtained postdoctoral training in protein chemistry at the University of Minnesota and joined the Gerontology Research Center of what was then part of National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in1968. He is the chief of the Molecular Dynamics Section. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Biophysical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Gerontological Society of America, the International EPR (ESR) Society, and the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue.

The role of oxygen in biological systems and how it influences the aging process. The red cell is responsible for the transport of oxygen through the circulatory system and the delivery of oxygen to the tissues. In the red cell, oxygen is reversibly bound to Fe(II) of hemoglobin with molecular oxygen released at reduced oxygen pressure. However, both oxygen and iron can undergo oxidative and reductive processes with the Fe(II) oxidized to Fe(III) and Fe(IV), while oxygen can be reduced to superoxide, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals. The ramifications of these oxidative reactions in red cells have been the focus of the Molecular Dynamics Section.

Dr. Clionsky is on the consulting staff of Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MA. Dr. Clionsky has provided specialized dementia care to over 3,000 patients. She is a member in American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Neuropsychiatric Association, Massachusetts Medical Society, Hampton County Medical Society, Psychiatric Society of Western Massachusetts, Jefferson Medical College Alumni Association, Hobart Amory Hare Honor Medical Society of the Jefferson Medical College, Carlow College Alumni Association. In 1997 she was awarded a degree of Doctor of Medicine. She has developed and executed many successful sales and product training programs, opened and managed large dealer distribution channels, established major OEM and VAR accounts, managed substantial business units; as well as funding and founding a small company. Additionally, she has been responsible for the development of significant new product offerings, which required prescient vision of market directions and considerable technical acumen in diverse areas such as: defense and commercial applications of artificial intelligence, as well as insurance adjudication, hospital laboratory systems, electronic funds transfer, and high speed on- line transaction processing.

Her research interests include the relationship of hypoxia and dementia and neuroprotective strategies.

By 1990 Soraya graduated in Biological Science at the University of Valencia and remained there to undertake a PhD under the supervision of Consuelo Guerri at Research Institution (Instituto de Investigaciones Citológicas), which I completed in 1996. During my PhD my dissertation was “Changes of astroglia intermediate filaments gene expression during rat brain development: Effect of alcohol exposure”. She analyze the events which occur during the early stages of astrogliogenesis during brain development, using “in vivo” and “in vitro” experiments. I did experiments in cells in culture primary as radial glia (stem cells in brain), astrocytes and neurons. At 1997 she joined Eva Qwanstrom’s group at the Hallamshire Hospital (University of Sheffiel) in Sheffield, UK and spent three years involved in the identification of an adhesion-regulated subunit of the interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor complex. she was working in immunology, cytokines, inflammation processes and matrix regulation of IL-1 responses. In 2000 she returned to Spain at Department of Physiology, Medicine Faculty of Valencia. University of Valencia and were she was appointed to a part-time position as Lectureship. In 2004 she was appointed to a fixed-term position as permanent University Lecturer at this department in the University of Valencia. During that time she was involved in the mechanisms of oxidative stress in the generation of Alzheimer’s disease with Jose Viña’s group. Also at that time she developed my lectures with Luis Such’s group with who she learned a lot about physiology and how to do a correct lecturer to pupils in my our department.

At this moment she work in Alzheimer’s diseases and in inflammation and oxidative stress mechanisms. Also she would like to work in precursor cells and the subsequently ability to further differentiate into neurons and astroytes inside the brain. She order a grant from my sanity government and still waiting for the resolution grant, about stem cells and brain.

George Perry is dean of the College of Sciences and Professor of Biology at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Perry is recognized in the field of Alzheimer\'s disease research particularly for his work on oxidative stress.
Perry received his bachelors of arts degree in zoology with high honors from University of California, Santa Barbara.  After graduation, he headed to Scripps Institution of Oceanography and obtained his Ph.D. in marine biology under David Epel in 1979. He then received a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology in the laboratories of Drs. Bill Brinkley and Joseph Bryan at Baylor College of Medicine where he laid the foundation for his observations of abnormalities in cell structures. In 1982, Perry joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University, where he currently holds an adjunct appointment. He is distinguished as one of the top Alzheimer’s disease researchers with over 800 publications, one of the top 100 most-cited scientists in neuroscience and behavior and one of the top 25 scientists in free radical research. Perry has been cited over 23,000 times and is recognized as an ISI highly cited researcher. Perry is editor for numerous journals and is editor-in-chief for the Journal of Alzheimer\'s Disease. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and past-president of the American Association of Neuropathologists, as well as a member of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. Perry is recognized internationally for his work. He is a Foreign Correspondent Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences and a Foreign Member of the Mexican National Academy of Sciences, and recent recipient of the National Plaque of Honor from the Republic of Panama Ministry of Science and Technology.

Perry′s research is primarily focused on how Alzheimer's disease develops and the physiological consequences of the disease at a cellular level. He is currently working to determine the sequence of events leading to damage caused by and the source of increased oxygen radicals.

Jesús Avila is Professor and former Director of the Center of Molecular Biology Madrid, Spain. During the last thirty years he had been working in neuron cytoskeleton. Now he studies the role of tau protein in neurodegenerative disorders tauopathies like Alzheimer\'s disease. He is member of different Organizations like EMBO European Academy and the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences; he is member of different Editorial Boards and has more than 300 publications most of them related with Alzheimer\'s disease.

Dr. Buchanan is a board certified specialist in both neurological surgery and psychiatry. He is trained in and performs all aspects of neurosurgery including those for disorders of the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Dr. Buchanan also has subspecialty training and surgical expertise in epilepsy, deep brain stimulation, Parkinson\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s disease, essential tremor, Tourette syndrome, and dystonia, as well as pain syndromes and psychiatric disorders such as major depression and OCD. Dr. Buchanan is dedicated to helping patients recover both physically and psychologically. Dr. Buchanan completed his residencies at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Surgery/Neurosurgery. His fellowships include Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, in Epilepsy Surgery and Functional Neurosurgery; UCSD Department of Psychiatry and the National Institute of Health (NIH) Psychobiology and Psychopharmacology as well as The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Lab of Genetics. Dr. Buchanan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and The Institute for Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He has an Image Guided Transcranial Laboratory at UT where he studies Brain Function and is exploring treatments for epilepsy, psychiatric disease, and movement disorders. Dr. Buchanan is a Board Certified Diplomate of both the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
