Winston Patrick Kuo in 2007, established the Laboratory for Innovative Translational Technologies (LITT) at HSDM to provide the Harvard research community with early access to enabling leading-edge genomic and proteomic technologies, which are now an integral part of the Harvard Catalyst clinical and translational science center. Dr. Kuo is currently the director of the Harvard Catalyst Laboratory for Innovative Translational Technologies.

Kuo\'s research involves the application of genomic and proteomic technologies in two broad areas: craniofacial development and oral cancer.

Maurizio Chiriva is the director of basic research in the division of Hematology/Oncology, the director of the experimental clinical translational research program, a leader in the bone marrow transplant research and translational immunology program as well as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, USA.

Research is focused on developing new therapies for Multiple myeloma, ovarian and lung cancer, prostate cancer and melanoma.

Ian McNiece obtained his PhD from Melbourne University, Australia in 1986 and his thesis work was undertaken at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. He did a post doctoral fellowship with Dr Peter Quesenberry in Charlottesville, Virginia and then worked at Amgen Inc, in California for 9 years studying hematopoietic growth factors. Dr McNiece returned to academia in 1997 and worked at the University of Colorado in Denver as the Director of Research in the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. In 2003 he moved to Baltimore as Professor of Oncology at Johns Hopkins University, where he served as Director and CEO of the Division of Biomedical Sciences Johns Hopkins Singapore and Director of the Stem Cell Therapy clinical laboratory. In 2007 he moved to Miami as Professor of Medicine in the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute at the University of Miami, and Director of the Experimental and Clinical Cell Based Therapies Program which supports translational clinical research in cellular therapy. He is currently the Director of the Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Clinical Laboratories at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. His work has focused on translational medicine with approaches using stem cells and the generation of cellular products for therapeutic treatments.

Shufeng Zhou is presently a Professor, Associate Dean of International Research, and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. Prof. Zhou completed his clinical medical training in China in 1989 and obtained his PhD in 2001 from the School of Medicine, the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2002, Dr. Zhou has served as a faculty member for the National University of Singapore, Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and RMIT University, Australia.

Jamal A. Ibdah is currently Senior Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Internal Medicine, Medical Pharmacology and Physiology. He is the Chair and Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Ibdah currently serves on the Editorial Board of World Journal of Gastroenterology and is a Senior Editor for the Journal of Cardio Metabolic Syndrome. Dr. Ibdah has served as ad hoc member on the hepatobiliary pathophysiology (HBPP) NIH study section and on several NIH special emphasis panels in clinical research; he is currently a permanent charter member of the NCRR Clinical Research Review Committee.

He has devoted his research career to translational sciences in multidisciplinary environments, and his work exemplifies the translational approach from bench, to bedside, and back.

Ming Pei is an Associate Professor and a Director of Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory in Department of Orthopaedics, West Virginia University. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Exercise Physiology and Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in West Virginia University. He received his MD from Xuzhou Medical College, China in 1991, MS from Fudan University, China in 1996, and PhD from Beijing University, China in 1999. He is an Active Member of Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS, since 2002), Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS, since 2002), and Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI, since 2006). He serves as a reviewer for 22 journals and 8 grant agencies and annual ORS conference abstracts. He also serves as an Editorial Board Member for 8 journals. He has more than 50 papers published in peer-review journals.

Laura Cassidy received an MS in Biostatistics and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Bio statistics at the University of Pittsburgh and is currently an Associate Professor in the Institute for Health and Society and the Department of Surgery. Dr. Cassidy became Director of the PhD Program in Public and Community Health in 2011.

Her research interests include pediatric surgical outcomes, trauma, registry development in addition to identification and evaluation of risk factors and treatment of pediatric patients.

Steven H. Yale is presently the Director of Clinical Research at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation. He also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health. He is also an attending Physician at Ministry St. Josephs Hospital, Marshfield.

Mohammad Reza Abidian received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from University of Michigan in 2007. Dr. Abidian’s doctoral research was focused on nanostructured conducting polymers and bioactive nanofibers for neural interfaces. He completed his postdoctoral training in the Center for Neural Communication Technology at the University of Michigan in 2010. During his postdoctoral training, Dr. Abidian investigated the applications of nanostructured conducting polymers for in vivo neural recording and peripheral nerve regeneration. Dr. Abidian joined the Department of Bioengineering at Pennsylvania State University in August 2010. Dr. Abidian has courtesy appointment in departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering. Research in his lab is focused on multi-disciplinary approaches for development of micro/nano-scale technologies for targeted delivery of biomolecules, neurochemical sensing, and tissue engineering for central and peripheral nervous systems. The honors and awards Dr. Abidian has received include Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Silver Award, the University of Michigan Rackham Pre-Doctoral Fellowship, and College of Engineering Distinguished Achievement Graduate Award.

Lana E. Kandalaft is interested in moving the biologically-focused research ideas into clinical trials. Dr. Kandalaft plays an integral role in the development and implementation of these clinical protocols stemming from the laboratory discoveries of the OCRC and the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute (AFCRI). Her role encompasses working with researches in the laboratory to finalize pre-clinical data required for IND submission, supervising the regulatory team and the clinical team to ensure compliance with FDA, IRB and CTSMRC regulations and coordinating with the business team, clinical team of nurses, sub investigators, clinical fellows and core directors to ensure a seamless clinical operation at the OCRC.

She is working to develop a Regional Ovarian Cancer Network, and to develop Industry and Biotech partnerships for future clinical studies.

Herbst is a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology, Chief of the Medical Oncology and Associate Director for Translational Science at Yale School of Medicine and Yale Cancer Center (YCC). Prior to his appointment at Yale, Herbst was a professor of medicine, chief of the Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology, and the Barnhart Family Distinguished Professor in Targeted Therapies at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His primary mission is the enhanced integration of clinical, laboratory, and research programs to bring new treatments to cancer patients.

Herbst’s laboratory work is focused on angiogenesis and dual EGFR/VEGFR inhibition in NSCLC and targeting KRAS-activated pathways. This work has been translated from the preclinical to clinical setting in multiple phase II and III studies which he has led. He has led the Phase I development of several of the new generation of targeted agents for NSCLC, including gefitinib, erlotinib, and bevacizumab.
