Evalina Burger is the Senior Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon and Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopedics. She was trained in South Africa and recruited to the University of Colorado in 2006 from Louisiana State University. She has received many awards throughout her career. Feng Tao has completed his Ph.D in 2000 and postdoctoral training in 2005. Currently he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Tao received his RO1 award from NIH in 2012. He has published 30 papers in peer-reviewed professional journals and he is serving as an editorial board member for several professional journals. Dr. Tao also served as an invited reviewer for Johns Hopkins ACCM Seed Grant, NSF-sponsored Pilot Funding at Louisiana State University, and Wings for Life−Spinal Cord Research Foundation in Austria.

Feng Tao’s research interests focus on the central mechanisms of analgesia and anesthesia. The goal of his work is to understand how the effects of analgesics and anesthetics on their neuronal targets are regulated. Specifically, he is interested in the regulation of central sensitization mediated by glutamate receptors and their interacting proteins. It is through these pathways that pain sensation is modulated in the central nervous system, especially at the spinal cord level. As an extension of his pain research, Dr. Tao has begun a collaboration with other investigators at Johns Hopkins to address the problems of central chronic pain after spinal cord injury using a unique stem cell approach. This research project has been funded by a Maryland Stem Cell Research Grant. In 2012, he developed a new line of research to investigate stress-induced pain transition after surgery and this research proposal has been funded with a 5-year NIH R01 grant.

Dr Sunday R. A. AKINBO (PhD, FWSPC) is presently the Professor and Head/Chairman, Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), and also the Head and Consultant Physiotherapist, Department of Physiotherapy, Lagos University Teaching Hospital Lagos (LUTH) Lagos Nigeria. He has successfully supervised 7 PhD and 24 MSc theses, and 145 B. Physiotherapy research projects into completion. He has published well over 80 full research studies and 80 research abstracts in peered reviewed journals and conferences proceedings till date. His professional areas of specialization are Physiotherapy Management of Musculoskeletal & Orthopaedics Disorders/Pathology, and Physiotherapy in Sports injury. He has attended well over 85 conferences locally and internationally, and has presented papers in all the conferences attended, and has also served as a Guest/Keynote Speaker in over 40 meetings (Conferences/Workshops and Seminars). He has received and completed 4 research grants to completion. He has over 20 years of universities teaching and research experiences. He has won 10 special professional and community merit awards. He was formally the Editor in Chief and Chairman Editorial Board and Editor, Nigerian J Medical Rehabilitation, and Nigerian Quarterly J Hospital Medicine respectively. He is presently the Editor and Member of the Editorial Board of RESEARCH IN MEDICINE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (University of Lagos Medicine & Science Based Journal), and a peer reviewer to over 20 journals. He has served and is still serving his country/continent and profession in several areas, as chairman of several accreditation panels to Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centers and General Hospitals in Nigeria/Africa among others. He did his undergraduate medical training from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, Haryana, India and postgraduate training in pharmacology and therapeutics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences , New Delhi, India. His primary research interests are Alzheimer's disease and yoga and sexuality. He has to his credit 20 International and 50 National papers. He has also authored one dozen books in pharmacology and therapeutics and also on various aspects of sexuality. He has served as a Research Associate in leading Institutes of India including AIIMS and postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and research, New Delhi. In addition, Afshin is the deputy head of Traditional & Complementary Medicine Research Centre and Centre for History & Ethics Studies at Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. He is nationally well known for his publications so that he has published 17 books in the fields of Nursing, Midwifery and Medicine irrespective of his papers in peer-reviewed journals.
